Overview

There's a lot to like about the 2020 Honda HR-V, besides its good looks. It has plenty of standard and available multimedia and advanced safety features, a spacious and comfortable cabin, and above-average fuel economy ratings. This compact crossover is quite versatile: it's small enough to navigate narrow streets and park in tight spots, yet large enough to store whatever you may need for a family outing or even a road trip. Let's take a closer look at the features that help it stand out in this competitive vehicle segment.

Trims Levels

The 2020 Honda HR-V is available in five trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The LX's  standard equipment list includes 17-inch alloy wheels, a 60/40 split second-row Magic Seat, a 5-inch color LCD screen for the infotainment center, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink and streaming audio, a USB audio interface, and a 160-watt audio system with four speakers. As the name implies, the Sport trim gets some sport-oriented upgrades, such as 18-inch machine-finished alloy wheels and paddle shifters, as well as connectivity amenities like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The EX trim adds heated front seats, a power moonroof, and a suite of driver-assistive technology known as Honda Sensing. The EX-L tacks on leather-trimmed seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. At the top, the Touring trim gets an eight-way power driver's seat, LED headlights, and a satellite-linked navigation system.

Mechanical Features and Safety

Under the hood of every 2020 Honda HR-V is a 147 horsepower 1.8-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine set up with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). All trims come standard with front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available, with the exception of the Touring, which comes standard with AWD. The fuel economy ratings vary with the drivetrain: FWD models get an EPA-estimated 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, while the AWD models get up to an EPA-rated 27 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

The 2020 Honda HR-V features some of the most high-tech safety technology available, especially on its higher trims. All HR-Vs are engineered with an advanced compatibility engineering body structure and have an advanced airbag system consisting of front, SmartVent front side airbags, and side curtain airbags with rollover sensor. Also standard are a multi-angle rearview camera, vehicle stability assist with traction control, and brake assist. The EX and higher trims also get the Honda Sensing active safety package, which includes collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning. These trims also get other driver-assist technology that's not included in Honda Sensing, such as Honda LaneWatch and automatic high-beams.
